John Barker is President of Barker/DZP, a full service advertising and branding agency based in Manhattan and one of Entrepreneur Magazine's "Hot 100" small companies in America. An expert on brand strategy and positioning, Barker is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and is regularly quoted in leading news media. Barker/DZP specializes in advertising and marketing services for clients in a growing range of sectors, including Financial Services, Entertainment and Sports, Lifestyle, and Retail. With 16 years of experience in advertising and marketing, John offers clients a rare combination of creative and strategic expertise, having served in a wide variety of creative, account management, and brand planning roles. He began as a copywriter at Grey Entertainment, where he helped launch breakthrough series such as Roseanne, thirtysomething, NYPD Blue and Twin Peaks for ABC. He then became Director of Advertising at Sony Music from 1990-95, managing all advertising for Columbia, Epic, Def Jam, and other Sony Music labels. John returned to Grey Entertainment in 1995 as SVP, Group Creative Director/Group Account Manager, overseeing ABC Television as well as the launch of The WB Network. In 1998, he moved to Grey Worldwide as SVP, Worldwide Branding Director and, later, as Executive Vice President overseeing Hasbro, Globalstar, and DoubleClick as well as the Grey Digital Business Group. He founded Zeitgeist Marketing in 2001 before establishing Barker/DZP in the following year. He is a regular speaker at industry conferences on issues of global branding, entertainment marketing, and agency development.
